Tungnath is the second of the Panch Kedar. In Garhwal’s Pandava–Shiva bull legend, different limbs of Shiva’s form are worshipped at five temples; Tungnath is associated with the arms. It is often described as among the highest Shiva temples.

Pilgrimage literature treats Tungnath Temple as a tirtha — a crossing where devotion to Lord Shiva (Tungnath) is believed to bear fruit more readily than in ordinary space.
