Dussehra (Vijayadashami) closes Navaratri’s arc. In North India, Rama’s victory over Ravana is staged with Ramlila and the burning of effigies. In many Shakta traditions, it is Devi’s victory day. It is also considered auspicious for learning, tools, and new beginnings (ayudha / vidya puja).

After Devi’s nine-night war comes the tenth day’s triumph. Parallel and beloved: Rama, with Hanuman, Sugriva, and the vanara host, defeats Ravana in Lanka and prepares the path home to Ayodhya — the moral centre of the Ramayana. Burning Ravana’s effigy is a public vow to burn arrogance, abduction of dignity, and adharma within.

Indian associations stage condensed Ramlila and community Dussehra. Many temples mark the day with Devi–Rama aarti even without effigy burning, focusing on the victory message for families.
