Significance in mythology

Vaishno Devi on Trikuta is worshipped as a form of the Goddess combining Vaishnava and Shakta resonances in North Indian devotion. Regional mahatmya narrates the goddess’s pursuit of the devotee-turned-adversary Bhairon and her establishment in the holy cave — a story that frames the yatra as both refuge and testing.

The shrine board pilgrimage is among India’s largest Devi yatras, placing Trikuta alongside pan-Indian Shakta geography even where formal peetha lists differ.
