जीवित्पुत्रिका (जितिया) व्रत कथा — मौलिक पुनर्प्रस्तुति।
भाद्रपद की कृष्ण अष्टमी के आसपास पूर्वी भारत में माताएँ संतान की आयु–रक्षा हेतु जितिया रखती हैं।
लोक कथा में जिमुतवाहन जैसे पात्रों की करुणा और माता की तपस्या जुड़ती है — सार एक है: संतान का जीवन सबसे बड़ा धन।
कई परिवार निर्जला रखते हैं; कई फल–दूध से। क्षमता और चिकित्सक सलाह से तय करें — व्रत हिंसा नहीं।
