॥ छठी मैया की जय ॥
छठ व्रत कथा — शुद्ध मन से सुनें। तिर्थयात्रा की मौलिक कथा–पुनर्कथन; कॉपीराइट ग्रंथ की नकल नहीं।
छठ सूर्य और छठी मैया का व्रत है। चार दिन — नहाय खाय, खरना, संध्या अर्घ्य, उषा अर्घ्य — शरीर को प्रकाश के सामने खड़ा करते हैं।
कथा कहते हैं छठी मैया संतान और प्रसव की रक्षिका हैं। सूर्य दृश्य देव हैं — अन्न पकाने वाले, रोग हरने वाले। जो आभार से अर्घ्य देता है, वह लेन–देन नहीं, ऋण–स्वीकार करता है।
महाभारत स्मृति में वनवास की कठिन घड़ी में द्रौपदी–पांडव सूर्य की शरण ले अन्न–शक्ति पाते हैं। राम वंश भी सूर्य का सम्मान करता है। छठ उसी आभार को घाट पर जीवंत करता है।
विधि का हृदय शुद्ध जल है। प्रदूषित नदी में खड़ा होना व्रत का मजाक है — इसलिए घाट सफाई स्वयं धर्म है। ठेकुआ और फल नैवेद्य सात्त्विक रखें।
संध्या को डूबते सूर्य को अर्घ्य; उषा को उगते सूर्य को। बीच का जागरण/उपवास परिवार क्षमता से। महिलाओं–पुरुषों दोनों की परंपरा क्षेत्रों में फल–फूल रही है।
कथा का फल: संतान सुख, रोग शांति, और अहंकार का घटना — क्योंकि सूर्य के सामने राजा और निर्धन एक जैसे खड़े होते हैं।
अर्घ्य के बाद प्रसाद विनम्रता से बाँटें। जो नहीं व्रत रख सके, वे घाट की सेवा–सफाई से पुण्य पा सकते हैं।
