॥ स्वामीये शरणम् अय्यप्पा ॥
अय्यप्पा मण्डल व्रत कथा — शबरिमला की भक्ति-यात्रा।
परंपरा कहती है कि भगवान अय्यप्पा शिव और विष्णु (मोहिनी रूप) की दिव्य संतान हैं — हरिहरपुत्र। वे धर्मशास्ता के रूप में पूजे जाते हैं।
कथा के अनुसार बाल अय्यप्पा को पंदलम नरेश ने अपनाया। उन्होंने महिषी/महिषासुर की बहन महिषी का वध कर लोक-कल्याण किया।
तपस्वी रूप में वे शबरिमला पर विराजमान हुए। भक्त इरुमुदि बाँधकर पवित्र तीर्थयात्रा करते हैं और अठ्ठारह पवित्र सीढ़ियाँ चढ़ते हैं।
मण्डल काल लगभग एकतालीस दिन का व्रत है — ब्रह्मचर्य, सात्त्विक आहार, काला/नीला वस्त्र, तुलसी माला और नित्य नाम-जप।
व्रत विधि: गुरुस्वामी से दीक्षा/मार्गदर्शन लें। प्रतिदिन स्नान, स्वामीये शरणम् जप, मंदिर/घर पूजा। क्रोध, मांस-मदिरा और असत्य त्याग।
मण्डल पूर्ण होने पर शबरिमला की यात्रा — इरुमुदि पूजा, पंपानदी स्नान, और सन्निसानम् में दर्शन। हरिवरासनम् सायंकाल की प्रसिद्ध आरती है।
कथा में कहा गया है कि सच्ची श्रद्धा और मण्डल-अनुशासन से ही स्वामी कृपा करते हैं। बाहरी वेश नहीं — भीतरी शुद्धि प्रधान है।
फलश्रुति: मण्डल व्रत से मन शुद्ध होता है, अहंकार घटता है, और अय्यप्पा-कृपा से जीवन में शांति व आत्मबल आता है।
जो ‘स्वामीये शरणम् अय्यप्पा’ कहते हुए व्रत निभाते हैं, उनका मार्ग मंगलमय होता है।
